Bio: Jim Zuckerman left his medical studies in 1970 to pursue his love of photography and turn it into a career. Jim specializes in wildlife, nature, and travel photography, macro work, and digital effects. His diversity in technique and style is unique in the professional arena. Jim was a contributing editor to Petersen’s Photographic Magazine and Shutterbug Magazine for decades, and he is the author of 26 books on photography. In addition, Jim has fully embraced the remarkable creative potential of AI imagery.
His images, articles, and photo features have been published in scores of books and magazines including Time-Life books, publications of the National Geographic Society, the Economist, Omni Magazine, and Life Magazine. Jim leads photography tours to exotic destinations such as Indonesia, Ethiopia, South Africa, Kenya, Patagonia, Iceland and Brazil, plus he conducts workshops to photograph frogs and reptiles, snowy owls, carnival in Venice, and more.
Artist Statement: In judging photo contests, Jim looks for artistry, attractive graphic design, good lighting and composition, and compelling subject matter.
Theme Definition: Impressionist photography is a term used to describe photographs that evoke the pictorial vision of Impressionism turned into photography, with the camera used almost as a paintbrush, while also calling to mind the mysterious, dreamlike qualities that lie beneath the surface of this world. Impressionistic photographs depart from realism in the sense that they show us a world that could be, a world that we may dream of experiencing, a world that speaks the language of the subconscious.
